1. Tubes and fittings kayak trailer rack
The best way to build your own kayak trailer is to use a second-hand trailer for the base -an old boat trailer, perhaps-, remove the useless parts, adapt the structure and create a DIY rack to hold the kayaks.
In this case, DIYers build a kayak rack with steel pipes and fittings and fixed it to the trailer.
2. DIY kayak trailer with paddle locker
Paddles and kayaks go together like peanut butter and chocolate. If you plan on driving around with your kayaks in a trailer, you’ll need to think of a place to put your paddles too.

This example is lightweight and custom. As mentioned in the video, using steel tubes or EMT conduit for the kayak trailer runners makes a safer ride for your kayak!
Again, it’s so easy to convert an old boat trailer or jet ski trailer into a DIY kayak trailer, especially when using steel tubes and connectors as building material!
4. DIY milk crate kayak cart
Ok, this one isn’t exactly a trailer, but we thought you might find it useful anyway. Milk crates can be used to create DIY storage structures, but it’s not the only thing that can be built out of milk crates. They can become kayak carts, to avoid dragging our kayaks on the ground!
This is an easy design anyone can make with only one crate, 2 washer tires and a steel spacer.
5. Three-levels kayak trailer
This kayak trailer is perfect if you are looking to go on a kayak and camping adventure for several days! This rack has three different levels and can be mounted on a two-wheeled trailer.
You can use this idea to create your own version with tubes and connectors… Even the ladder can be made with it!
