Have you named your chickens yet? If not, maybe it’s time, because you are just about to discover the chicken coop plans you’ve been looking for to build your own! With food autonomy’s popularity on the rise, people are finding ways to produce a larger quantity of quality food on their own.
Esteban here at tinktube decided to create his DIY chicken coop, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to develop and test out these plans. His project turned out great! Of course, these are only guidelines to help you get started. You’ll be able to adjust the dimensions and other details to the specificities of your own backyard and to the number of chickens you’ll get!

1. The parts you’ll need
Before you start building your project, make sure you get the following parts from your local merchants or online:
- Nest boxes
- Roofing panel
- Exterior surfaces
- Coop floor
- Chicken wire
*Instead of buying surfaces, you may have some in your home that are no longer in use and could be given a second life: It’s better for the environment, and also a great way to save money!

3. The build (the fun part)
Now that all the pipes are cut and you’ve gathered all the connectors, you’re ready to start building your project: here is step 3 of these chicken coop plans!
First, you’ll build the structure. After that, you’ll get to choose the surfaces you want to add to your DIY chicken coop. You’ll find great surface options at your local hardware store, like Home Depot or Ace!
